Why Avocados Are Great for Your Skin

Why Avocados Are Great for Your Skin

The best part about summer is summer vacation! Sunning on the beach, snorkeling in the ocean, cruising to the Mexican Riviera - our favorite vacation spots include lots of sand and sun! While we do our best to protect our skin with sunscreen, the water, sun, heat, and wind exposure can cause dryness, skin damage, and premature aging.

At Costa Vida, we love using fresh avocados to make our famous guacamole. Guacamole is a delicious way to enjoy the healthy fats and antioxidants our bodies crave! Avocados are one of our favorite super foods, but did you know they are also a super source of natural skin care? The healthy fats, antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals in organic avocados can help reverse the damaging effects of outdoor summer fun.

Hydrate

Dehydration from a day in the sun does more than make you thirsty. Your skin needs to be rehydrated too! The natural oils in avocados make an incredibly effective, all-natural moisturizer. Apply mashed avocado directly to dry areas, leave it on for 10-15 minutes, then rinse it off in the shower.

Soothe

Nothing’s worse than recovering from a painful sunburn! Let the avocado oils and antioxidants help you recover faster from a sunburn this summer. To treat your burn, mash fresh avocado with 1 Tablespoon of aloe vera or olive oil and apply directly to the sunburn. The healthy fats will hydrate the burned area, soothing pain and preventing peeling. Find more soothing info here.

Nourish

Treat yourself to an all-natural facial mask! One of our favorites contains avocado, raw oats, honey, apple cinder vinegar, and lemon juice. The Vitamin E and healthy fats in the avocado smooth your skin while the acids in the lemon juice and vinegar brighten and reduce inflammation and breakouts. Find the recipe here!

Rejuvenate

Avocados are rich in vitamins that can help prevent and reduce wrinkles. The vitamin A in avocados moisturizes your skin while its vitamin E helps your skin produce collagen. Apply mashed avocado to your face for 25 minutes, rinse with cool water, and enjoy your youthful glow! Find more wrinkle treatments here.

Cleanse

Rinse sand, dirt, and sweat away with a gentle avocado cleanser. Mash an avocado, raw honey, and milk into a lotion consistency. The natural antibacterial properties of the honey will cleanse your skin while the milk and avocado moisturize and nourish. Add a little bit of ground raw oats or sugar to create a cleansing scrub! Find the recipe here.
