Make 2017 Your Best Year Yet!

Happy New Year from your friends at Costa Vida! After a season filled with traveling, visiting loved ones, and enjoying holiday treats, it’s time to get back to our routines and set goals for 2017. Each January we look back at the previous year to see what we did well and what we can improve. We make resolutions to improve our physical, emotional, or mental health. With these good intentions, why is it over 90% of New Year's resolutions don’t survive through January?

The reason is simple – habits are hard to break. When we make too many difficult changes at once, even if they’re all positive, it’s hard to make them permanent. Rather than starting 2017 with the latest fad diet and four gym memberships, you’re more likely to succeed if you make small changes to achieve your realistic, long-term goals. To help you stick to your healthy resolutions, we’re sharing easy, small changes you can make every day!

Sleep More
If the recommended 7-8 hours of sleep isn’t realistic for you just yet, try to increase your nightly rest by one hour. You’ll notice improvements in your memory, stress level, and concentration.

Drink More
Swap one sugary drink each day with water. You’ll save money at restaurants, boost your immune system, and increase your ability to maintain a healthy weight. During the year, work toward drinking half your body weight in ounces of water every day.

Eat More
Instead of focusing on eating less this year, set a goal to eat more wholesome foods. Swap processed foods with natural, real ingredients when you can. A diet rich in fresh produce, lean proteins, and whole grains will give you the nutrients to stay healthy and the energy to enjoy each day of 2017.

Share More
Share your resolutions with your loved ones. Your friends and family will support you as you work toward making positive changes in your life.

Move More
Your body is made for movement, but going to the gym 7 days a week isn’t the only way to exercise. Set a goal to move at least 30 minutes every day and make it part of your daily routine. Take an evening walk after dinner, choose stairs over the elevator, or play with your kids outside.

Breathe More
Make sure to set aside time for yourself this year. Unplug from your devices and breathe or meditate for a few minutes each day. You will notice positive changes in your productivity, mood, and energy levels.
