How to Pack a Beach Bag

How to Pack a Beach Bag

We’re one week closer to announcing our grand prize winner for the Cruise to the Coast giveaway! During the month of August, we’re giving away a trip for two to the place where Costa Vida was born, the beautiful beaches of Mexico. Our posts this month will be full of travel advice, not just for our lucky grand prize winner, but for all Costavidans who head for the beach this summer!

Whether you’re stepping off the cruise ship for an onshore excursion or heading to the beach for the afternoon, you’re beach bag is your best friend. From our years of experience packing (and accidentally forgetting!) things for our beach trips, we’ve compiled a list of our beach essentials. Costa Vida approved!

The Bag – Your beach bag is your biggest asset. Choose a washable, durable bag with enough space to hold your towel, dry clothes, and all the following essentials. There are so many affordable options, you can buy more than one!

Sunglasses – This seems like a no brainer, but sunglasses are too important to leave off the list. We recommend bringing an inexpensive pair of shades in case they get scratched by the sand or fall off in the ocean.

Sunscreen – Apply your sunscreen to dry skin 15 minutes before you head out into the sun. Because sunscreen sometimes leaks when heated up in the sun, you may want to consider keeping your sunscreen in a waterproof pouch or plastic bag. Find more sunscreen tips here.

Waterproof phone case – Keep your phone safe from waves and sand with a waterproof phone pouch. We love the JOTO brand because you can take fun underwater pictures to post about your beach day!

Wallet Keychain – Keep your keys, money, and ID in a compact wallet. It will take up less space in your beach bag and is convenient to keeping these essentials together in one place. We love the fun beachy patterns on Thread Wallets.

Flip Flops – Sure, you’ll be barefoot most of the day, but a day at the beach occasionally requires slipping on your shoes to enjoy lunch at the nearest taco cart. Choose an inexpensive pair of waterproof, bright flip flops that coordinate with your beach bag.

Beach Book – There’s nothing like relaxing on the beach with a good book. Catch up on a book you’ve been dying to read or keep it short and sweet with your favorite magazine. Make sure you take time to read and unwind.

These are a few of our Costa Vida approved beach essentials – comment to tell us your list of beach must-haves!
