Host a Holly, Jolly Party!
It’s that special time of year when everyone comes together—for a great party! This year forego the usual holiday open house and host a spectacular (and spectacularly easy) theme party. Take a look at our ideas for holiday soirees that will get everyone in the holiday spirit!
Ugly Sweater Party
What was once snazzy is now the perfect theme for a party! Call on friends and family to go all-out holiday tacky with their sweaters and join you for a little fun rockin’ around the Christmas tree!
Do: Encourage guests to get in the spirit by offering awards to the ugliest, cutest, or downright craziest sweaters. Some silly games will perfectly round out the evening—find a few great ideas here.
Eat: Put out some punch, a selection of delicious finger foods, and don’t forget this easy ugly sweater cake!
You don’t need snow to enjoy a wintry wonderland this year. Transform your house into a snow globe with the help of white balloons, sparkling paper snowflakes, and yards of silver garland.
Do: Make snowmen if you’re lucky enough to have snow, or fake it with spray snow and old fashioned window stencils.
Eat: Set up a hot chocolate bar so guests can create their own delicious ways to “warm up”. Marshmallows, chocolate spoons, peppermint sprinkles, and whipped cream let guests get creative with their cocoa.
Goodies are definitely a big part of the holidays, so host a classic cookie exchange and enjoy good company and piles of cookies!
Do: Invite fellow cookie fanatics to bake up a dozen cookies times the number of guests (5 guests equals 5 dozen cookies, see?), so everyone gets to take home a variety of freshly baked (or bought) goodies. Have some cute bakery boxes for guests to take their treats home in.
Eat: A few savory snacks are a nice way to round out a sweet gathering.
Don’t rush out and buy a cartful of holiday decorations this year—make them! It’s especially fun for kids to create holiday magic that everyone gets to enjoy.
Do: Gather together festive papers, glittery glue, colorful pompoms—whatever strikes your fancy, and create ornaments, garlands, flowers, and holiday origami. Get some inspiration here.
Eat: Pass around fun, kid-friendly food that adults will love too: chips and dip, snack mix, and these easy ham and cheese Christmas crackers.
Inspired? What kind of holiday do will you be cooking up?
